1. Assign roles and resources to activities.
Assign roles and resources to activities to track the work units and costs required to complete the project. Open a project, and then navigate to the Activities page in the Schedule app. Select an activity, and then click the Resource Assignments Detail window.
2. Assign a role, which you will later staff with a resource.
First assign a role, which you will later staff with a resource. Double-Click in the Role column. And select a role. Click Show Details to view the role's availability. The availability chart shows there are no hours allocated during the activity's time frame. Click Assign.
3. Assign a named resource to the activity.
Next, assign a named resource to the activity. Click Assign. Select a resource. Check availability. And click Assign. Work units and costs are calculated based on length of the assignment, units per time availability, and the price per unit for the resource or role. Availability and price per unit are defined in the roles and resources, availability, and rates detail windows.
4. Replace a Role with a Resource.
Next, replace the civil engineer role assignment we made on the previous activity with a specific resource whose primary role is civil engineer. On the Context menu, click Staff Role, and Select a Resource. The role is staffed with a specific resource.
If the resource is not working full time on the activity, adjust the unit's time after making the assignment. This resource will devote only two hours a day to this activity. Therefore, change the unit's time from eight hours per day to two hours per day. Note that planned units and costs are adjusted accordingly.
